facebook musing
I’ve felt like a facebook voyeur lately, logging in regularly without doing much to update my profile or initiate communication. It seems like there’s another new flood of people, and I wonder if it could be sparked by this article in Slate: http://www.slate.com/id/2208678/
It occurs to me that you could be shy or private or lazy on facebook (I might be all three), and it would probably look the same way to your friends. And as for the friends, they aren’t necessarily the same as people you’d call friends in real time. It could be someone you met once at a wedding and enjoyed talking with, but will likely never see again because you live in different states. It’s a new definition of friendship, though the shyness is just as ambiguous: “is she stuck-up or just shy” being replaced by “is she private or lazy or shy?”.
